Back in San Diego!

Hello friends! Gee it's great to be home! We had an incredible journey to Orlando and back. Some of you (I hope) followed along via my travel blog. (That reminds me, I have more info to add to that!)

We are so blessed to have been given the chance to take that road trip to Orlando; I never ever imagined I'd have the opportunity to see so much of the USA from the vantage point of the front seat of a car. We sure looked like the "Clampetts" as we rolled along, but it was such an experience! As we… Continue

Quick Check-in from the Road

Hello to all our friends here in SMTN; it feels like I've been away for ages! We are in Pittsburgh tonight through Sunday morning. We finally got to meet our new grandson Elias and I've added a few new pictures of Elias, one of Sandy Melhorn and me and a few pictures from Michigan. I have albums on Facebook, so feel free to look at all the pictures there to date along with all the posts at http://dianea2z.wordpress.com.

A New Group

I had an interesting idea "hit" me tonight and decided to form a new group: a group for those of us who are business partners with our spouse or "significant other". It occurred to me that perhaps we could learn from and support each other in our "couple-preneurial" situations. There's no doubt that a business partnership with a loved one can lead to pitfalls not found in more traditional arrangements, and there seems to be a fairly good-sized group of people on this site who have successful par… Continue

Networking My Way Through Life

I have been spending a good deal of time in various networking endeavors, and I am receiving wonderful results for my effort. The people I have "met" online are so interesting and friendly, and those I've met in person have been very warm and welcoming. There is a potential to build some very good relationships and friendships.

There is no doubt that online networking is great practice for face to face networking. Online you have the opportunity to formulate your thoughts without distractions,… Continue

Dear Diane, I thought I posted this on my wall, but don't see it. Here is my report. Report on Tanzanian Mission Trip by Rhoda Duhon - October 11, 2008
Dear Prayer Team,
First of all I want to give all the glory to God, who allowed me to be a part of such a great harvest of souls for His Kingdom in Tanzania. I also want to thank each of you for praying for me. I feel somewhat like Elijah must have felt after the great victory over the priests of Baal on Mount Carmel and the way he felt as he came down off the mountain. It has taken me this long to process all that happened during those 12 glorious days.
I arrived home last Sunday night totally exhausted, yet exhilarated by what God had done. I was part of the medical team, which consisted of 2 Americans, 11 Tanzanians and 1 Kenyan. Satan opposed us at every hand and we could not go out the first day of ministry (Saturday) because of bureaucratic red tape. This time was crucial, however, in that I was able to train the nationals who were waiting with me about the method we were going to use to evangelize. We were using an Evangecube, which is a neat cube which folds and refolds with pictures that help tell the gospel. They had never used one and so I was able to teach them about it and then lead them in sharing with each other. During this time, God allowed us to really become a team. The medicines did not arrive until Sunday night. Monday morning we still had not got permission to go out, so I repeated what we did on Saturday and we had a season of prayer. At that time, I was able to share with the national doctor/translator about the multiplication of churches, which is part of the strategy of e3partners – Evangelize, Equip (disciple new believers) and Establish new churches.
Our group from the US consisted of 28 people from different churches and states and 1 came from Venezuela. Originally the plan was to plant 20 churches. Then the Tanzanian pastors decided they could plant 60 churches. This was impossible with those coming from the US, so our church, First Baptist Euless, paid to mobilize 55 nationals from other regions to come alongside us and endeavor to do the task God had set before us. We ultimately planted 58 new churches in previously unreached areas around the cities of Magu and Musoma, Tanzania. Each of us had to have an interpreter, who may or may not be the prospective pastor of the new church plant. The harvest for the 5 days of ministry was 9300 precious new believers in Christ.
Back to our team – On Monday afternoon we were finally able to secure permission and an unevangelized mission point to set up our clinic. We had a medical team (American and Tanzanian doctors) and a Tanzanian optometrist to do the eye clinic. It was decided I would head up evangelism of those who came to be seen by the 2 clinics. We came to the village and God wondrously provided buildings in which each team could conduct their clinic. We had a Tanzanian young lady who filled out the forms for intake and then the people went to the clinic they needed. The point was to show the people we cared for their physical needs so that we could minister to their spiritual needs. During that afternoon we saw 162 people pray to receive Christ. We were almost overwhelmed. The people are so gracious and loving and hungry to hear the words of eternal life. By that afternoon, as we were going back to the hotel, we knew we needed a pastor to shepherd that flock.
On Tuesday morning, God provided a godly, enthusiastic pastor for this new church. Pastor Godfrey and a helper would disciple the people after they prayed. The second day, we had all day - the doctor saw over 200 patients with the eye doctor seeing about 83 patients. We had 231 people pray to receive Christ on Tuesday, and I know we did not get all of their names. Many more prayed. By the end of the day, Pastor Godfrey had met with the people and established that there would be a church in that village (Kabegi). We were shouting with joy over this. The first day I did most of the evangelism, but the second day the nationals took over and would go the people who were standing in lines waiting and share with them. Many were saved while they waited to see the doctor. Not all who came were there to be treated. Many came with their loved ones. There were many children and old people and men and women. I was excited by the number of men who prayed, as often we see women willing to believe, but the men are reluctant. We need men in the church to make the church run and be leaders. This was very exciting for me. I told the doctor on the way home that I had a Phil. 4:6 type of peace that encompassed me the whole time – even when things seemed to be going wrong. This is indeed because of all the prayers of those of you who were praying for me. The Holy Spirit was all over the whole endeavor. At night we would gather in our hotel and share and eat a meal together.
Wednesday morning we only had 3 hours, but oh how many people were waiting for us when we got there. At one time I know I had about 100 people listening to me sharing the gospel and completely surrounding me. Most prayed out loud to receive Christ. On Wednesday, we had 189 from whom we received their names. Many more prayed and we did not get their names. Pastor Godfrey was taken to a building that someone said could be used for a church until they could build a church. I’m sure they will have to meet outside as there are so many new believers. He was also given a piece of land on which to build a church. The people who came were from Kabegi and several surrounding villages. The pastor plans to go and spend a week out there among the people and find the ones who prayed. Please pray for him as he does this. Follow-up is crucial to establishing true believers and not having many of those babes in Christ stillborn. He is supposed to send me the names of the other villages, so that we can pray specifically for all those who believed. The total for our mission point was over 600 new believers.
On Wednesday afternoon we had a time of celebration with our pastors, translators and pastors of the mother churches who will be providing guidance to these new baby churches. We had a time of testimony and singing and praising the Lord. One testimony bears repeating – not from my team. Our Venezuelan team member led a Muslim man to Christ on Saturday. This man was taken to the home of the pastor and given a meal and heard more about the gospel. He said he wanted to change his name to John. He asked if he could be baptized immediately. We were on Lake Victoria, so Omar took him to the lake and baptized him right there. He said, “I name you John, who was Jesus’ most beloved of disciples, and I know you are greatly loved by God.” Then Omar had the pastor wash the feet of this Muslim man. The most remarkable thing about this is that the man came to our celebration and gave his testimony of how he was a drunkard and a robber and God gloriously saved him. He knew he would have trouble with his family but he was not ashamed of Jesus. How many Christians do you know who will not even give a word of testimony to a group, even though it costs them nothing? Another exciting story was of an 82 year old man who received Christ. After he did he told the team member “I’ve been waiting for you all of my life.” Would it not have been tragic had we not gone to share with the thousands upon millions who are waiting to hear the Good News that Jesus has died for their sins?
Here are some direct answers to your prayers. Good gave me the most godly, wonderful widow to translate for me and she understood me perfectly. He gave us a hotel with a toilet bowl, hot and cold showers and air conditioning. We had plenty to eat, although we got pretty tired of it by the end of the week. I got all of my Limu there and was able to share it with those who needed it. I had perfect (almost) health the whole time and had no trouble walking, doing stairs or any other activity that needed to be done to do the ministry God called me to do. There was even a “choo” = toilet at the mission point so I never had to go into the bush to take care of my needs. These were grace upon grace, blessing upon blessing, above and beyond what I expected God to do for me. He cares about our every need and supplies it if we but ask. He gave me many friends in Tanzania and even some from the airplanes that I many not see again on this earth, but will see again in heaven. I have many people to email in Tanzania and will keep in touch with them. He gave me a special friend – rafiki – in a young man named Sakumi, who worked in the hotel and was my translator on Sunday. He took me down to Lake Victoria on Saturday evening and we had a wonderful time of fellowship. He is 21 and desires to become an evangelist or missionary. I was given a room by myself, which was behind the front desk and away from our other team members, so I got to know the hotel staff fairly well. So many blessings.
On Thursday morning, we left very early for our safari. I have posted the pictures of the whole trip on my SmugMug site, so you can see the safari, which is separate. The website is www.rhodaduhon.smugmug.com. Just click on the Tanzania fall 2008 folder to see the pictures. Each one is labeled.
Our trip home was the most grueling travel I have ever experienced and it has taken me all week to even have a semblance of recovery. I would not trade my experiences in the last months leading up to the trip and the trip itself for anything, but God would have to give me another specific call before I would be able to do it again.
I want to tell a little about the others’ experiences of evangelism. They were partnered with local pastors and went door to door sharing the gospel. They walked many miles to do this and I have the utmost admiration for each of them – God gave them the grace to do it and many souls were brought into the kingdom. Each of their stories is equally, if not more, exciting than mine. I shared with you two of them. Each night it was exciting to share what happened to each of us that day. I hope to hear some of their stories soon.
Again, I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart for those who prayed for me and supported me in financial ways. You each will receive rewards for your part in the salvation of so many souls. God calls some to Go, some to Pray and others to Give. Some He calls to do all three. If you ever have the opportunity to go on a mission trip, your life will never be the same and neither will those whom you touch be the same.
God richly bless each of you,
Rhoda

I am leaving tomorrow on a mission trip to Tanzania for 12 days. I am very excited to get to share the gospel with those who have never heard about Jesus. I would appreciate your prayers as we go, as the trip to get there is grueling. Will let you all know how it went when I return. Rhoda

It would take a while to go through the AKA thing with the Digital Gangster. While I know it might turn some people off from a branding perspective it has really been good. With a vanilla name like Eric Green I needed something that would stick into peoples minds and it seems to have served me well.

Hi Diane, I've been off the SMTN for a couple of weeks. I've been enjoying a visit from my son (had to have his wisdom teeth removed and the biaxial magnet device really helped him). I added my first blog today on my page and started 2 discussions on the Alkaline Nutrition and the Goingreen groups, as well. Would love any advise as I am totally new to this. Have a great Labor Day in sunny San Diego, its raining here, but thats a good thing. :) Sandy
