Skype - The INCREDIBLE Social Media Communication Tool

One of my personal favorites that I believe is an absolute MUST-HAVE for online business and web 2.0 social media, is a free program called Skype.

Skype is software that allows users to make telephone calls over the Internet. Calls to other users of the service are FREE of charge. You also have the ability to live video calls, instant messaging capabilities, and so much more. It is a great tool to keep in touch with fellow business partners, prospects, family, and friends.

For me, it's an indispensable tool that is on my website, my blog, here on this social network on my page. It gives the ability for an immediate connection when I'm live and online. Not only that, it gives the freedom for people around the world to reach out and chat via call or instant message. Example, I regularly have people from Australia and New Zealand calling me because they see I'm online, they know what time it is here in Seattle and I know what time it is down there. We're able to connect in a more powerful way than just through email. I believe it takes the new relationship to another level immediately. I'm able to get to know people faster, easier and build relationships and friendships.

I don't use a headset to listen, I let the sound come through my laptop, which is right by my kitchen. I listen to calls as I am cooking dinner. I can also sit outside and listen if I keep my sliding glass door open.

Comment by Kat Wolfe on September 29, 2008 at 9:10pm: I use Skype all day long to call leads. It is so inexpensive. I also have a voice mailbox and a local phone number associated with it. I recently purchased a wireless headset to use with Skype, but haven't had a good chance to use it yet. I had been using a Plantronics DSP400, which has been great. I am on the road all of the time and it folds up nicely.

I do experience 'breaking up' on the calls sometimes, or delayed speech, but overall, it is fantastic.
